Tech 10 - Apple is working on a new cooling system

There are some patent applications this week show that Apple has been working on solving cooling problem of laptops. These days laptop is much faster and more powerful than before, but according to energy conservation law, this means there will be more heat while laptop working, and this leads to electronic components premature damage. Of course, this is annoying laptop users.

The first application shows a cooling system with more sensor will control fan and other active cooling device. This new system called Airflow, it is an advance version of current cooling system.

The second application shows that users could intervene cooling system. Users could not only control the system but also could lower the temperature through USB, web and Fire Wire.

The third document the use of electronic equipment cooling system. This patented formulation can be transmitted to the external heat laptop cooling devices to achieve rapid and powerful effect of cooling.

Finally, the electronic device cooling thermoelectric cooling components described will use the "Peltier Effect". By connecting two different metals current run. When the electron flow from the high-density area to a lower region to achieve the cooling effect.

Tech 09 - An iPad for Everyone!!!

Seton Hill University, an university in southwest Pennsylvania might become famous from now on. There's a Griffin Technology Advantage Program of this university that every full-time student in fall 2010 will get a new Apple iPad and a 13'' Macbook. Students not only can use their equipment in class but also can use for personal matters. The university has a plan of renew MacBook model every two years, and the most amazing thing is students can take iPad and MacBook away with them after gradation!

The university thinks advanced technology will help students to learn better with a higher efficiency.

Tech 08 - MS Office 2011 for Mac

According to foreign reports, Boy Genius released some screen shot of MS Office 2011 for Mac. These pictures shows some new features of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Office 2011 is quite alike to Ofice 2010, the different is Outlook will be contained in 2010 package, this will be the first time Microsoft provide a Outlook application for Mac. The most outstanding feature of Office 2011 is a same document could be edited by several different users at the same time.

But I can't stop wondering when we already have Address Book, Mail and iWork in our Macs, what's the point we have another software package to do the same thing?!

Tech 07 - Crazy Design for Apple Products

Most of Apple fans are passionate, but some of them are crazy. I just find out what people will do for just carrying all their Apples.

Tech 06 - New USB-powered standard for iPad?

According to iPhone Fan website reports, through public technical documentation of Apple in March 15 "Apple Computers: Powering a peripheral through USB" speculated that at least three years ago, Apple began to bulit new USB-powered standard for Mac products, the new standard improved for 12V/12mmA from 5V/500mA, this standard almost equals to the power capacity as FireWire.

Since this new USB-powered standard was attached in all products from late 2007, why release this news now? It is very clear this is a preparation for iPad. The power capacity of iPad is surely far larger than iPhone, if attach your iPad on USB 2.0 to charge, it would take quite a long time, but with is new power standard, charging iPad will be as easy as iPhone.

Tech 05 - Apple Lisa

After analyzing Macintosh products over the past 30 years, British online trade website Vouchers found out if you convert a Apple Lisa into price for today, it could trade 43 iPad(s).

Apple Lisa, the prototype of Macintosh in 1983, was priced 9,995 USD, converted into today's currency it worth 21,745 USD.

In around 1982, Steve Jobs was forced out of the Lisa project, so he joined Macintosh project instead. Contrary to popular belief, the Macintosh is not a direct descendant of Lisa, although there are obvious similarities betweeb the systens and the final revision, the Lisa 2/10, was modified and sold as the Macintosh XL.

The Lisa was a more advanced (and far more expensive) system than the Macintosh of that time in many respects, such as its inclusion of protected memory, cooperative multitasking, a generally more sophisticated hard disk based operating system, a built-in screensaver, an advanced calculator with a paper tape and RPN, support for up to 2 MB of RAM, expansion slots, a numeric keypad, date corruption protection schemes such as block sparing, non-physical file names, and a larger high resolution display. It would be many years before many of those features were implemented on the Macintosh platform. Protected memory, for instance, did not arrive until the Mac OS X was released in 2001. The Macintosh, however, featured a faster 68000 processor (7.89 MHz) and sound. The complexity of the Lisa operating system and its programs taxed the 5 MHz Motorola 68000 microprocessor so that the system felt sluggish, particulary when scrolling in documents.

Just for fun, I found a picture from www.bytecellar.com comparing keyboard of today's iMac and a Lisa 2 keyboard.
